** The Italian Government's Ministry of Cultural Heritage has announced free entry to all state museums in 2012 on the day of any visitor's birthday.  Just present yourself with passport or ID showing your birth date, and you must be accompanied by a full fee paying person.  If the museum in question is closed on your birthday the offer is valid for the next opening day.  Some examples in Tuscany:  Archeological area of Carmignano or Cortona Camucia, Maddalena Convent at Fiesole, Medicean Villa at Cerreto Guidi, Soffena Abbey at Castelfranco di Sopra, and in Florence itself:  Chiostro dello Scalzo, Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Serristori, Accademia Gallery and the Galleria della Moda.
