Trevi: "Charm, in the eyes of the traveller, is in the spiral of buildings that wrap around a hill, narrowing gradually culminating in the belltower of the cathedral, that looks like a bauble sitting atop a Christmas tree". This is a basic translation of Giacomo Leopardi's (1798-1837) poem about Trevi, which nowadays still looks nearly the same to our great fortune. Although we mention a Christmas tree, it is the vast expanse of silvery olive trees that remain in your memory.
The Zappelli Cardarelli sisters run i Mandorli, a charming agriturismo with warmth and dedicate themselves to producing excellent olive oil and lentils. Accomodation in small old brick or stone buildings surrounded by greenery and wandering cats. A panoramic terrace looking towards Montefalco, outdoor swimming pool, secure parking, laundry facilities, BBQ and the olive oil museum complete the frame. 2 bedroom apartments have fireplaces, fully equipped kitchens and outdoor garden furniture and great views of the hills (65-145 Euro per day). No credit cards accepted.
Typical local cuisine and the opportunity to join short cooking courses can enrich the traveller's personal culture. Organic extra virgin olive oil and lentils are the two main food products produced at the property. By the way, just down the road don't miss visiting the newly opened Frantoio del Gusto upmarket food hall - open for breakfast, buffet lunches, dinner or simply to purchase fresh meats and other local specialities.
The Palio dei Terzieri re-enacts the troubled history between Trevi (they wanted to keep their administrative autonomy) and its neighbours Foligno or Spoleto; held annually during the first weekend of October, while the olive oil feast with outdoor bruschetta tasting starts the first week-end of every November. Another event: around 25th April every year there are organised picnics and guided tours through Trevi and surrounding hills.
